Meticulous Mick is a man with a lot of blogging awards – and no wonder. Please check out his wonderful photography and tell me if you disagree – go on, I dare you! Now the thing is, when you get one of these wordpress awards, you’ve got to pass it on – a little bit of love across cyberspace as it were. So, thank you, MM for sending some warmth in my direction by nominating me for the Sunshine Award.

Here are my answers to the 10 questions:

1. To where would you most like to travel? The Far East – Indonesia and Malyasia to start with and then Japan.
2. Do you have a sweet tooth? Yes indeedy, although I’m not a craver of sweet things. I enjoy the Arabic desserts we have in our bakeries here in the UAE and am also partial to good Swiss or Belgian chocolate – oh, and home-made fudge and I mustn’t forget dates – sweetness as Nature intended it.

3. What motivates you to keep blogging? My need to write, to express myself, and the lovely feedback I get from time to time from readers and followers.
4. Who is your favourite comedian? That’s a toughie – I’m never able to answer these ‘favourite’ questions – oh dear – there are 2 more coming up. I recently discovered a writer/essayist who is not a classic stand-up comedian but he had me in stitches after following his series of talks on Radio 4 during the summer. His name is David Sedaris. Before him, Peter Kay was one of my favs as well as Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders.
5. What is your favourite outdoor activity? Walking on beaches, pottering in the garden, visiting parks with my daughter. In my prime, I’d have said tennis first.
6. Who was your favourite teacher and why? No one person comes to mind, but I enjoyed all my schooldays and particularly remember the teachers at Donaghadee Primary School where I spent 5 years of my life. They instilled good study skills and enquiring techniques which have stayed with me.
7. Do you own any pets? Not strictly pets, but we have 10 hens, 1 cockerel and 3 new baby chicks – see my previous post for cute pics.
8. Most embarrassing moment in your life? In the post which follows this, I mention it. It was the time I went to visit a new mother in hospital and sat with the wrong person for 20 minutes, not realising my mistake until after I left.
9. Where are you from? Ireland. I was born in the North (or the 6 counties as it’s often known in the Republic) in my mother’s home town, Newtownards. Since my paternal grandfather held an Irish passport before the partition of the island in 1921-ish, I qualify for an Irish and a British passport and have both. I don’t think my other 3 grandparents ever left the island of Ireland – a sign of the times, I guess.
10. How much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood? Without Googling ‘wood chuck’ to see what size the fellas are, I’d say about the amount it would take to make 3.4 small boxes of matches, providing he chucks the wood on the last Monday of February.

Phew! I enjoyed that, although I think questions beginning ‘what’s your favourite’ should heretofore and forthwith be banned from the whole of wordpress.

For my 10 nominees I’m taking a novel approach. I’m going to nominate my latest/newest 10 legitimate followers (ie, they didn’t appear to be trying to sell me something). There are some very interesting people blogging on wordpress – please check them out. For those nominated, please don’t feel obliged to accept, but if you want to spread the sunshine around, then please link back to this post, answer the 10 questions, and nominate 10 more award recipients. It’s time-consuming, so no worries if you can’t manage it.

I’d like to say thank you for following me and happy blogging to:
